Novel experimental techniques for investigating time resolved high speed friction

چکیده
The paper presents some recent advances in experimental methods to investigate the phenomenon of high speed friction. In particular, Ž . Ž . two novel experimental methods are employed in the present study: a the plate impact pressure–shear friction experiment, and b the torsional Kolsky bar friction experiment. Using these experimental configurations, dynamic frictional characteristics of Carpentor Hampden tool-steelrTi6Al4V and Carpenter Hampden tool-steelr7075-T6 Al are investigated under conditions of high interfacial normal Ž . Ž . pressures 100 MPa to 2 GPa , high slip speeds 1 to 60 mrs and elevated temperatures. The results of these experiments provide some new insights into the role of the applied normal pressure, interfacial slip speeds, interfacial temperature, and the surface roughness in controlling the tribology of dry sliding interfaces. q 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. متن کاملA Pressure-shear Plate Impact Experiment for Investigating Transient Friction
-A pressure-shear plate impact experiment is introduced to study time-resolved friction at interfaces subjected to high sliding speeds under relatively high normal pressures. The conditions of slip at the interface are varied by changing the surface roughness of the impacting plates and by varying the applied normal to shear stress ratio. The configuration offers the simplicity of allowing the ...
متن کاملAn experimental method to study high speed sliding characteristics during forward and reverse slip
This paper introduces an experimental technique to investigate dynamic friction characteristics of sliding interfaces at normal pressures up to 125 MPa, slip speeds up to 15 m/s and slip distances of approximately 10 mm. This new apparatus involves a novel modification of the conventional torsional Kolsky bar apparatus employed extensively in the past to investigate high-strain-rate behavior of...

Anti-Friction Bearing (AFB) is a very important machine component and its unscheduled failure leads to cause of malfunction in wide range of rotating machinery which results in unexpected downtime and economic loss. In this paper, ensemble machine learning techniques are demonstrated for the detection of different AFB faults. Initially, statistical features were extracted from temporal vibratio...
متن کاملNumerical and analytical investigation of an ultrasonic assisted ECAP process
One of the great challenges in the processing of materials using Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) is the high forming forces required to produce large shear deformation in the material. Researchers show that the friction forces between the die and the sample constitute a great part of the total forming forces. Recently, ultrasonic vibrations are successfully implemented into the ECAP proce...
